Sidearmor Light Holster and XTI Procyon Light Review
December 4th, 2008This is my second day wearing the Sidearmor Light Holster for my Glock-21 with an Insight XTI Procyon light and I like it a lot.
At first I was concerned about the weight and mass of this set up and if the holster would move around much during normal use. Using my kitchen scale the combination of a loaded pistol, light and holster add up to 3 lb 3.4oz (the holster and belt slide weighs only 7oz).
I wear a Wilderness Tactical Instructor Belt, 1.75” wide with the 5-Stich for added stiffness. This combination holds everything snug to my hip with no detectable movement and no discomfort. Once you strap everything on, the weight just disappears. I think the new one piece belt slide Sidearmor designed helps this combination work well too.
The adjustable tension setting allows me to dial in just the right amount of holster grip on the Glock and light. With the adjustable canting of the holster on the belt slide you can expect to become an expert at taking your holster on and off your belt while you play with different cant angles for your individual tastes. I’d recommend starting out at vertical or with a slight forward cant. Surprisingly a more vertical cant with a light holster works much easier for me in presenting the pistol than the more forward cant that I use with a non-light holster. I also found that positioning the light holster a bit more forward on my hip helps make this combination work great!
The Insight XTI Procyon LED Light is impressive. I have been using the Surfire X200 and it is a good tactical LED light. The Insight Procyon comes in a slightly more compact package and its switch system is easier to use than the Surfire. Plus in addition to the normal light options of constant on and momentary on, the XTI has a strobe setting, by simply pressing the momentary switch quickly twice. The XTI light output is super. It not only has a brighter center beam but the beam additionally puts out a circle of illumination that helps you see a wider field of view than I’ve experienced in other pistol mounted lights. Everything fits easily and tightly on the Glock accessory rail and stays that way after many practice rounds. It’s a solid product with great performance.
The Sidearmor Glock Light Holster with the Insight XTI Procyon are a great combination.
